Hemet - San Jacinto Action Group

The Hemet-San Jacinto Action Group is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-political advocacy network of community leaders dedicated to improving the quality of life in the San Jacinto Valley.  The association provides leadership and advocacy in public policy issues, identifies important infrastructure and community needs, and lends support through various advocacy measures.

The Action Group recognizes that quality communities incorporate low crime rates, a solid economic base, adequate transportation corridors, good schools, and positive recreational opportunities for all ages.  Current position papers focus on transportation, water, recreation plans for the Diamond Valley Reservoir, and education issues.

A few highlights of the Action Group's accomplishments include:

  • Crime & Safety Committee coordinated Valley Safety Summit to let elected officials know of the community’s concerns, questions and suggestions and to create specific action plans to make our Valley a place where criminals don’t want to be.
  • The DVL Committee is actively working with MWD to enhance the recreational opportunities at DVL, including opening up the promised trails between DVL and Lake Skinner to the south.
  • Developed a 501(c)3 to form the Western Center Community Foundation.  Since 1992, the Action Group has worked with then Senator Dave Kelley, the Metropolitan Water District, Mt. San Jacinto College, and the University of California Riverside in the vision and development of the Western Center Museum for Archaeology & Paleontology.
  • With the assistance of then Senator Jim Brulte and former Assemblyman Brett Granlund, led community advocacy to acuire $1 million in state funds to build Valley-Wide Recreation & Park District's Aquatic Facility on the east side of Diamond Valley Lake Reservoir.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Action Group meetings are typically held on the third Friday of each month at 12:00 noon.  Meetings provide an opportunity for community leaders to network and usually feature advocacy issues of local, state or federal officials as programs.  Leaders in the community are invited to participate.

Members of the Action Group represent the various industries and agencies in the San Jacinto Valley and surrounding region.

Each year Action Group representatives visit legislators in Sacramento to address local and regional issues.  Meetings are held with Commission heads and State elected officials to discuss areas for improvement.

The Action Group also travels to dialogue with elected officials in Washington D.C., specifically to promote The Western Center for Archaeology and Paleontology, water concerns, and educational issues.
